Winners of $1.6bn US Powerball jackpot still officially unknown

Three people, overcoming odds of 1 in 292 million, have a claim to the record .6 billion Powerball jackpot, lottery officials say.

The winners in Florida and Tennessee have not come forward, lottery officials in those states said, and officials have not said if anyone in California had claimed the prize.

With each state setting its own lottery rules, the California retailer will get a $1 million bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, while the Florida retailer, located in a tiny coastal town, will get $100,000. “After taxes, they’ll receive $187.2 million”.

The nurse was reportedly given the jackpot-winning ticket by her boss, according to the New York Post and other news outlets. But what about the people who sold the winning tickets?

The nurse’s son went so far as to send her a picture of what he said was the winning ticket, Levy said.

The huge draw also produced eight $2 million Power Play winners and 73 $1 million winners nationwide who matched all five white balls but missed the red Powerball, said Sally Lunsford of the Kansas Lottery.

“We’re going to take the lump sum, because we’re not guaranteed tomorrow”, Robinson said.

“I looked again, they are the same, I looked again, and then I ran down the hall and said, John, you gotta check these numbers”, she said.

Celebrations erupted at the Park Avenue Healthcare & Wellness Centre, where the woman, who has not been named, completed her shift before heading home to discover the unfortunate truth. “That’s my dream, to help out, any time I have money”, he said.

While the story of the nurse and hedge fund manager Jared Price winning the Powerball jackpot were both hoaxes, there are at least three big winners already known.

Hundreds of people crowded into the 7-Eleven, chanting “Chino Hills!”

Naifeh said they initially felt they’d received “the short end of the stick” but felt better once they learned why they get lower payouts than sellers in other states.

Traverso said it is also rare for winners to make any sort of public announcement before claiming the winnings with the California Lottery.

“No one from that group has come forward”, Alex Traverso, assistant deputy-director of the California Lottery told BuzzFeed News.

She says during Christmas she wanted to buy gifts for her grand kids but didn’t have the money.

Robinson said he bought the winning ticket at his wife’s request at the family-owned Naifeh’s grocery on his way home from work, even though he wasn’t feeling well.
