Winning election would be great moment for country: Hillary Clinton

Seeking to avoid a televised display of disunity, Bernie Sanders on Monday urged supporters to line up behind Democrat Hillary Clinton and claimed victory in deposing and sidelining a top party official.

During the primaries, Sanders campaign had alleged that the party was not staying neutral.

AS SOON as word leaked last week that Hillary Clinton would choose Virginia Sen.

That difficulty was underscored inside the official convention too. There were also whispers about a possible convention protest against Clinton’s choice of vice-presidential running mate.

And then there are voters like Valerie Duhl. But the party’s core commitments to free-market economic solutions have been central in undermining the living standards of millions of “working Americans”-most of them women and people of color-for whom the Democrats pledge to “fight” at election time”. At a rally Sunday for an assortment of environmental causes like opposition to oil pipelines, fracking, and other issues like genetically modified food and the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, she said she’s done. As Solomon continued, developing the hands and fingers metaphor further: “If Clinton has reached out to Bernie supporters, it appears that she has done so to stick triangulating thumbs in their eyes”.

“We are not going to vote for the lesser of two evils”.

She’s among those hoping Sanders pulls off some convention miracle and becomes the nominee.

“She’s been in Washington for so long”, said Lisa Tarlecki, 56, of Berwyn, who said she was weighing whether to vote for Clinton – or not at all.

Many moderates still blame the Green party’s Ralph Nader for handing Florida and the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000. To win the general election, he said, Clinton needs to show that she’s actually “easygoing and likable – her friendships, her depth, all of those things”.

It’s an article of faith among vast swaths of Sanders’ disciples that the presidential nomination was stolen.

Her lead was virtually insurmountable in May – which is when an email got sent from one party official wondering whether someone should slur Sanders as an atheist before votes in the Bible belt.

Clinton escaped one potentially ugly moment when outgoing party chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced she would not take the stage. Sanders himself called for her removal. She favored Clinton against Senator Bernie Sanders of Virginia.

“Donald Trump has no real plans for jobs, for college kids, for seniors”, she said in the keynote address. Other high-profile speakers include former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden.

The disclosure set off devoted Sanders supporters, who were already having a hard time moving past the bitter primary battles to embrace Clinton as the nominee. Again, some fans aren’t following him. She will accept the nomination on the last day of the meeting on Thursday, becoming the Democratic standard-bearer against Trump in the November 8 election.

And Sanders, in choosing to run for president as a Democrat-and to insist that a large vote for him could launch a “political revolution” inside the Democratic Party-has to be held at least partly responsible for this. But she also said Clinton should address the trust issues head-on. “And the right has just gone off the cliff”.

Half of Clinton’s own backers say they consider her only slightly or not at all honest, and more than one-third say she’s only slightly or not at all likable, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll conducted this month.

It took the country 144 years for the women to get voting rights, she said.

She also expresses doubt about the polls.

Many of Sanders’ supporters remain deeply committed to their candidate, holding demonstrations in Philadelphia and booing mentions of Clinton on the convention floor.

In a highly unorthodox move, Trump appealed to Russian Federation on Wednesday to uncover and release thousands of emails that Clinton did not hand over to US officials as part of a probe into the use of her private email system while she was the country’s top diplomat from 2009-2013.

It will “stand in stark contrast to the dark, dismal speakers we had at the Republican convention who were screaming and shrieking at people”, said Benenson.

The FBI said Monday it is investigating how the hack occurred.

Her answer? “Political opponents and conspiracy theorists have accused me of every crime in the book”, she said. This is something Clinton promises to pursue, through Supreme Court appointments and an attempted constitutional amendment.

But liberal observers like Clay Shirky worry Trump’s peculiar approach may be lulling the Democratic base into a false sense of security.

“She grew up as an ordinary kid in the suburbs of Chicago who went to public school”, said Melanne Verveer, the former first lady’s chief of staff, who remains a close confidante.
