According to lottery officials, one ticket there hit the $540 million jackpot. As of midday Saturday, it had not been claimed.

Mega Millions ticket sales have exceeded $1 billion since March, when the last victor was declared. That person has not yet been identified, either.

The jackpot got bumped up to half-a-billion dollars since no one claimed the original $449 million prize on July 5, and the lucky victor of the $540 million is…?

“Congrats to the one #MegaMillions jackpot victor in Indiana”, California Lottery officials tweeted.

Ticket sales typically increase as the prize grows, lottery officials said.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot, worth US$656 million (NZ$898 million), was sold the prior year.

The victor can take a one time lump sum estimated payment of $380 million, before taxes, or a 30-year annuity.

The winning numbers were 8, 19, 20, 55 and 73, and the Mega Ball was 5.

Lottery officials remind players that they could be a victor even if they don’t win the jackpot prize. Seven are worth $1 million each – sold in Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey and Oklahoma.

The jackpot is now an estimated $15 million.

The next drawing was scheduled for Friday at 8 pm PDT.

A lottery ticket is sold ahead of drawing in December 2013.

Now the only question is: When is the next time we can all try again? Tickets for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing can be purchased until 10:45 p.m. EST.
