As reported by the Inquisitr, the news about huge Powerball drawings has caused Powerball apps to come more into focus lately, as well. A drawing is set for tonight, with 44 states participating in the lottery along with Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. One ticket sold in northeast Kansas for the July 27 drawing matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000.
A winning ticket will be worth an estimated payout of $478 million if spread over 30 years, or the victor may opt for a lump-sum payment of $330.6 million before federal taxes. The odds of winning are 1 in nearly 260 million, but because players won the big drawing on both Friday and July 19 after July 8’s big prize, this coming Friday’s pot is estimated at $20 million.
This is the third Powerball jackpot to crack the list of the 10 largest USA lottery prizes of all time in 2016.
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $500 million, which would make it the fifth largest lottery prize in USA history.
Wednesday’s one-time cash option on the Powerball jackpot is an estimated $291 million. $1.6 billion, Powerball, Jan. 13, 2016 (three tickets, from California, Florida, Tennessee) 2. The drawing was the 22nd since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold. Leach won the game’s $310.5 million jackpot on September 30, 2015.
For an extra $1, players can choose the Power Play option, which multiplies the value of non-jackpot prizes by up to 5 times, while the $1 million can be doubled in value.
