The Powerball jackpot will shower almost half a billion dollars on the holder of a ticket bought in New Hampshire.

Lottery officials remind players that they could be a victor even if they don’t win the jackpot prize.

There hadn’t been a Powerball jackpot victor since May 7, when a New Jersey family won $429.6 million. This was the eighth-largest Powerball drawing in the history of the lottery.

Before the day is done, some lucky Powerball player could be $478 million richer.

A ticket sold in Colorado matched four numbers plus the Powerball.

In addition, there was a $2 million victor in Pennsylvania, and $1 million winners in California, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington and West Virginia. No one matched all five numbers and the Powerball in Wednesday’s drawing.

Winners can choose between an annuity paid out over 29 years or a cash option, which is about $330 million. The first – on January 8 – is by far the largest lottery jackpot.

Folks in the U.S. state of New Hampshire are eager to learn who among them holds the winning ticket to a fortune.
