Winning ticket for $487 million Powerball jackpot sold in NH

New Hampshire lottery officials said someone bought the winning ticket at the local Hannaford supermarket in Raymond, a southern New Hampshire town of about 10,000. At $487 million, it is the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the nation’s eighth-largest overall, just behind a $536 million Mega Millions prize won July 8.

The jackpot has rolled over 23 times since it was reset to its starting sum of $40 million for a drawing on May 11.

Besides the grand prize victor, 10 players matched all five white numbers to win $1 million each.

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.

No one has purchased a winning ticket since early May.

The victor has one year after the date of the drawing to come forward. The last jackpot victor was in May. They opted to take home the cash option, meaning they’ll get $327.8 million before taxes right away, rather than dole out the winnings over 30 years! The odds of winning $4 is more likely, which is 1 in 38. The California Lottery reported three tickets matching five of six numbers were sold in Long Beach, Capitola and Sunnyvale.

On Saturday the Powerball Jackpot was at $478 million. The $1 million prize automatically becomes $2 million with Power Play.
