Winning ticket for $487 million Powerball lottery sold in New Hampshire

“I think it’s one of the most exciting things that have happened”, shopper Sandra Consalvo told WBZ-TV Sunday, hours after it was announced the store sold the only winning ticket in Saturday night’s national drawing.

The approximate odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 292 million, according to Powerball.com, which is run by the Multi-State Lottery Association. In January, Powerball gave away a $1.58 billion jackpot, the largest lottery prize ever.

Mark Vester, an IN man who won a $1 million Powerball lottery ticket, says he woke up to a nice surprise the morning after the Powerball drawing that changed his life.

Powerball is played in 44 U.S. states, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virigin Islands. Three of the tickets are worth $1 million; a ticket sold in Florida is valued at $2 million because the buyer spent an extra $1 to exercise the Powerplay option.

The ticket’s owner has not yet come forward.

Powerball players are testing their luck, hoping a few bucks will give them tickets to a new life. At $478 million, the prize would be the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the nation’s eighth largest overall, just behind a $536 million Mega Millions prize won July 8. The ticket was purchased as a cash ticket and is valued at $284 million.

Drawings take place every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 p.m. PST. And 188 players matched four numbers to win $232.72, 564 players matched three numbers and the powerball to win $24.29 and 5,784 won one free Quick Pick for matching three numbers.
