“These types of severe weather events are unusual for this time of year but certainly not unprecedented”, Carbin said.
The National Weather Service says scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop late Tuesday evening and especially after midnight.
“People will be busy taking care of last-minute holiday details, but it’s important that people pay attention to the weather alerts on Wednesday”, Heflin said.
A slight risk of severe storms will extend into Louisiana, Georgia, the rest of Alabama and MS and the Florida Panhandle, data from the Storm Prediction Center shows. The threat of isolated storms, including tornadoes, also exists through 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24.
“Main area of concern along and west of I-65, especially near the Bowling Green Region”, according to the National Weather Service forecast discussion. That area includes the cities of New Orleans, Atlanta and the Alabama cities of Montgomery and Mobile.
