Winter in full force: Winter weather advisory issued in Tompkins

Forecasters say slick roads and downed tree limbs are possible with freezing rain expected throughout northeast and north central Georgia. But drivers were still being urged to use caution.

Further up the heavily populated East Coast, National Weather Service meteorologist Bruce Sullivan said there could be 4 to 8 inches of snow in eastern OH, western Pennsylvania and western NY.

Those counties could see 7 to 13 inches of snow, mixed with sleet, the Weather Service said.

Temperatures should be in the single digits for the morning commute, but are expected to rise into the 30s by the afternoon and continue climbing as the day goes on. The National Weather Service was forecasting a high of 90 degrees Tuesday, which would be the earliest 90-degree day on record for the city.

A winter storm warning is in effect for all of Western New York Monday night.

“Our crews will work around the clock through the storm and if it’s snowing harder, is icy or they’re caught in traffic with other motorists, it will take longer for routes to be completed”, PennDOT Sec.

In Virginia’s Fauquier County, police said, a 63-year-old man was killed Monday when his SUV hit a snow plow.

The warmer temperatures followed a record-setting weekend of cold. Central New York could get 2 to 4 inches of snow tonight and almost Wednesday as it gets colder this afternoon.

Officials warn that the snow and sleet could make travelling hazardous for both the morning and evening commutes.

Officials in Florida and MS were investigating reports of at least three possible tornadoes.

But on Tuesday, get ready for a weather reversal: A high around 50 and a 100 percent chance of rain. Temperatures will be in the high 40s to the mid-50s across the mid-Atlantic.

Tuesday: Rain, moderate to heavy at times. A trace of ice may accumulate, leading to possibly slippery roads.

With federal offices and many businesses closed for Washington’s Birthday, though, many people were able to hunker down at home.

Clouds linger Saturday but temperatures remain well above normal, as the weather service calls for a high near 78.

The storm will wind down Tuesday night but lingering snow showers may add a quick dusting to an inch across the north country; lows will fall to near 30. Thursday should also be sunny but it will be a bit more brisk as temperatures struggle to reach 40.
