Winter Olympics: USA women to face Canada in gold-medal match

Gigi Marvin scored the opening goal in round one, but Canada tied it at one on a Meghan Agosta shootout tally. The U.S. has medaled at every Olympic Winter Games since the sport was introduced to the Olympic program at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games, winning one gold (1998), three silvers (2002, 2010, 2014) and one bronze (2006).

“I can’t put it into words”, defenseman Kacey Bellamy said.

Though it was an intense game that could have easily went the other way. “When it comes down to a shootout it can be anybody’s game”.

Cameranesi intercepted an attempted clearing pass and skated uncontested in on Raty before going top shelf with a wrist shot.

“I’m trying to tame the excitement”, she said, grinning.

Knight was credited with the second of those two goals.

At least on the Thursday afternoon I spent with him at the Kwandong Hockey Centre, his clients were at the center of the action – Agosta scored Canada’s first goal and Lamoureux-Davidson missed a penalty shot for the USA 10 minutes later.

American ice hockey forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson etched her name into Winter Olympics history on Thursday.

“We’re in South Korea, and it’s 2018 and you want a different result”, USA coach Robb Stauber said. “I just reacted to her, and then everything kind of went into a blur”. It was a thrilling final, it was unreal.

With under four minutes to play in the final in Sochi four years ago, Canada’s Brianne Jenner and Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice to force overtime against the Americans. Agosta and Melodie Daoust scored in the shootout. Both plan to start families with their husbands, meaning this final could have been their last game in red, white and blue. “It’s something I have been working so hard for, for 10-plus years now, especially the last four after coming fourth in Sochi”, said Leman.

“This was really a gold-medal preparation for us”.

“But once the puck is dropped you’re on auto-pilot”, Jenner added.

Tune in tonight for what truly is the pinnacle of women’s hockey.

The win pushes Canada into the gold medal game against the US, who defeated Finland 5-0 in the other semifinal.

The Olympic men’s hockey tournament in PyeongChang has now moved to the quarterfinal round, with Team USA taking on the Czech Republic to start things off on Tuesday night United States time.

On Thursday the only two teams crowned Olympic champions in women’s hockey will face off for the Pyeongchang Games title. He thinks USA Hockey, the NHL and the continent’s two pro women’s hockey leagues could do much more.

One item of concern for the Americans was the hard hit United States captain Meghan Duggan inflicted on Finland’s Ronja Savolainen, sending her face-first into the boards.

While other teams have players with global experience, it will be a first foray on the world stage for some of the Canadians. The Finnish goaltender is considered one of the pre-eminent netminders in the game, stopping 39 shots in the tournament opener to keep the Finns within striking distance until Dani Cameranesi’s empty-net goal with 13 seconds left.
