Winter storm from Colorado may hit sections of western Kansas

Meteorologist Jerry Killingsworth in Goodland says a tornado damaged roofs and broke windows in the tiny Gove County town of Grainfield, which could get 3 to 6 inches of snow on Tuesday, depending on when it starts falling.

The blizzard watch in Kansas is forecast to be in effect from late Monday through Tuesday night. A blizzard warning has been issued for eastern Colorado, including the city of Denver. Howling wind gusts 40-60 miles per hour will add to the storm’s ferocity. According to the National Weather Service, over the past 30 years, Kansas has averaged 1 tornado in the month November.

Winter Weather Advisories has been issued for much of southeast Wyoming outside the Sierra Madres, Snowy Range, Arlington and Southern Laramie Range.

Meanwhile, further to the east and south, severe weather and flooding rain is a concern.

Northwest Kansas is facing a second major winter storm in about a week, as a potent winter storm is expected to deliver more than a foot of snow in blizzard conditions Tuesday. Foothills for Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

“Tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail are possible”, the prediction center said.
