Winter storm on the way: Warnings, advisories issued

“This type of winter storm often has a swath of 15 to 30 cm of heavy snow associated with it”, the agency said. “Snow totals are not expected to exceed 2” in the metro, but could create slick conditions for the morning commute on Tuesday. They believe the low will tap into the moisture of the Gulf of Mexico which could lead to an intense winter storm.

The advisories are in effect from this evening until Tuesday morning.

A record-breaking 13.8 C was recorded at Pearson International Airport Sunday, making it the warmest February 28 on record. Most will fall overnight.

Monday will bring a chance of snow showers under a mostly cloudy sky and the highs will climb into the lower 40s.

Exact snowfall amounts and the possibility of ice pellets and freezing rain will depend upon the exact track of the storm.

Late this week and into the weekend we are forecasting a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the lower to middle 50s.

The accumulating snow will be heavy and wet, and could accumulate at rates up to an inch per hour.
