Winter Storm Warning: 10 Inches of Snow Possible in Parts of Minnesota

To the south, a winter storm warning is in effect for the Twin Cities, where the Weather Service says 6 to 10 inches of snow may fall through Tuesday evening. Also in the warning are almost all of Wisconsin and Iowa, along with a tail that stretches southwest through Oklahoma almost to Texas.

Light snow is possible further north.

Winds will pick up this afternoon, coming in out of the northwest between 10-20 miles per hour, creating blowing snow and reducing visibility on the roads. Tornado warnings were already in effect in Texas and Alabama, meaning tornadoes had been sighted. Some localities could see up to one-inch of snow each hour during the storm’s peak. Snow totals may exceed a foot in parts of central Wisconsin.

The storm could bring heavy snow, ice and sleet that might cause hard travel conditions. There have been some reports of power outages in the southern part of the state overnight.
