Meanwhile, with up to 4 inches of rain expected in northeast Texas and central Arkansas, a flash flood threat continues in North Texas and most of Arkansas.

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when you are expecting ANY freezing rain that is going to accumulate on roads and sidewalks and snow that accumulates to an average of 1 to 2 inches. This area is most likely prone to power outages.

When it comes to forecasting the difference between rain and freezing rain, one or two degrees can make the difference between just cold rain and a major ice storm.

There will also be a few pockets of freezing rain and drizzle into early Sunday.

“On the backside of the storm where colder air wraps in, there will be some snow across parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska and back into the central Rockies”, said Travis.

The accumulations are expected to reach a quarter to a half inch of ice, with the combination of gusty wins expected to cause downed power lines.

Because of the thickness of the ice in some locations, it may take the balance of Sunday until all secondary roads are cleared of ice or treated.
