Winter storm warning starts at midnight, snow moving into the area

In addition to the storm warnings and advisories, a coastal flood warning remains in effect for all coastal areas from Middlesex County down to Cape May County through noon on Tuesday. Highs reach the mid to upper 30s today but winds from the northwest gusting to 25 miles per hour bring the wind chill down into the upper 20s to low 30s. KINGSPORT – Kingsport’s Streets and Sanitation Department is now in a “wait and see” mode when it comes to the weather.

Monmouth had a winter storm advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

“Overnight it will change to an all-snow event”, Krichinsky said. That means Wednesday morning’s commute could be even worse than Tuesday’s.

“We should be in at least halfway decent shape”, Iovino said.

“We’re in a holding pattern to see how the forecast plays out”, Bachman said. Snow should taper off around midnight. The temperatures will also be dropping, making road salt less effective. Three loads were delivered to the Industry Drive depot on Monday alone, Hammonds said.

Renta expects an overnight snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches with an additional 2 to 4 inches arriving on Tuesday. Most snow showers are light, but a few are heavier. Low around 31 degrees.

The State Highway Administration began pretreating highways and main arteries, spraying a brine that can delay snow accumulation on the pavement.

Areas further south, including York and Lancaster, will get between 4-8 inches.

Pittsburgh and much of Southwest Pennsylvania along with a large part of West Virginia and Maryland are under a Winter Weather Advisory through Wednesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Winter storm expected to bring heavy snow during morning commute
