We are seeing snow now with temperatures in the 20s and it will take a while for the temperatures to warm to near 32, which might not happen for Richmond until the early afternoon.

For many, the increased warmth should come as a reprieve in a region that experienced its first cold snap of an otherwise mild winter.

The current Winter Weather Advisory also includes a Winter Storm Warning for areas further west, including for Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland, and parts of Loudoun County in Virginia, reported CBS D.C. So, timing the snow out to predict accumulations is challenging.

However, before the wind begins to shift from northeast to southeast, ice amounts can get up to a quarter inch well north and east of the city. Highs in the low to mid 30s are forecast with a 50 percent chance of precipitation.

“We could see 1″ to 2” of snow and sleet across the Triad.

Clouds will likely keep temperatures above freezing from Rome to Atlanta and points southward on Monday, so the morning hours will likely feature light rain or drizzle. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Around one- tenth of an inch of ice from freezing rain.

Snow accumulation possible in Clinton County by morning; elsewhere shouldn’t see much.

With extremely cold air in place ahead of this storm, snow will immediately stick to the roads when it starts to fall Monday, making travel hard and in some places very unsafe. Look for snow to develop in the afternoon, potentially changing to ice for a brief time then eventually turning to all rain overnight.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the low-40s, and Thursday will be colder, with temperatures around 35 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. South wind 7 to 16 miles per hour becoming west after midnight.
