The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning late Sunday and lasting through Tuesday morning.

Winds…southeast around 5 to 10 miles per hour. Snow accumulations of from 1-3 inches, with some ice, are possible.
The center of this winter storm will eventually bring heavier amounts of rain into the area from west to east during the afternoon and nighttime hours of Monday. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities…
A winter storm will move into our area Sunday night into Monday.
Western North Carolina my see a bit more icing for the far eastern counties, accumulating up to a quarter inch of ice through Rutherford, McDowell, Mitchel and Yancey counties.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser says she fully deployed the DC snow team Sunday ahead of a storm expected to deliver a sloppy mix of snow, sleet and rain.
The foothills will see a longer period of the mix of sleet and freezing rain.
Tuesday can see a few lingering showers taper off early with light snow setting up shop along the Tennessee border. I think we see the majority of the area change over to all rain by mid afternoon on Monday as warmer air builds into the region and temperatures rise above freezing.
The snow will trend wet enough to turn our woodlands and cities into a true winter wonderland as it sticks readily to all surfaces. What’s so hard about snow totals for this event is predicting the time of change over to all rain, which will drastically affect snowfall totals.
The freezing line will then expand into northern Gwinnett, North Fulton, Cherokee, Forsyth, Jackson and Hall counties, seeing mainly freezing rain around 7 a.m.

With low pressure expected to take a track near the coast or just inland, warmer air will penetrate much of the I-95 corridor, preventing this storm from being a major snow maker along the coastal plain. With this much rain, flooding may become a concern by Tuesday afternoon.
