There is around a 60 percent chance of precipitation throughout the day.

The forecast of snow in the Triangle on Wednesday is firming up.

The highest snow accumulations are expected to be from the Triangle to the northeast, into the Roanoke Rapids area, with 2 to 3 inches expected in that area. Roads will still be icy in spots in/around DFW for the Tuesday morning commute.

The National Weather Service is calling for light snow to start falling Tuesday night, with between 1 and 2 inches expected to coat the area.

The other issue is the wind with north winds gusting 10 to 20 miles per hour at times through late tonight.

An elevated cold risk is in effect for the area lasting until Thursday, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the weather service. “Plan ahead by allowing for extra travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework options”.

This morning: Cold rain changing over to ice and freezing rain.

The latest weather alerts follow several hours of snowfall across the area Sunday night and into Monday.

Today, conditions are expected to be cloudy with a high near 32, although the wind chill will make it feel between 20 and 25.

“Even without the wind, that’s pretty cold”, said Kleinsasser, the meteorologist. Light snow accumulations are possible down to 3000 feet. Overnight readings could reach minus-20 degrees. The town of Kershaw got a half-inch of snow, as the edge of the storm clipped the southern part of the county.

Wednesday night: Clear, with a low around 17. Untreated roads could be especially unsafe Wednesday night into Thursday morning as temperatures drop to the teens.
