That threat, however, appears to be diminishing.
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service and AccuWeather anticipate a snowstorm hitting the midstate Friday afternoon and the storm is expected to last until Saturday evening and bring several inches of snow.
Earlier in the day, the weather service there may be up to 1 inch of snow/sleet accumulations across parts of north Alabama, which the weather service cautioned may make morning travel treacherous. A wintry mix with freezing rain, sleet or a little snow is more likely from Blytheville, AR to Dyersburg to Union City, TN. There is a good chance we could see a wintry mix of sleet and rain in these areas before a change over to a cold rain by late morning.
The greatest threat of heavier snow has since shifted southeast of interstates 30 and 40 to include Pine Bluff and Camden in the latest models, he said, adding that weather officials are unsure of how much snow could fall in the state before the snow tapers off Friday morning.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32.
Significantly warmer weather is expected by Friday with highs reaching the low to even mid 40s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Highs will stay in the upper 30s Saturday, but should rebound into the mid/upper 40s Sunday.
