According to the latest incident report from the state Emergency Operations Center, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a 79 year man died after he drove into high water in the Viroqua area.

There, his cattle trailer jackknifed, causing the truck and trailer to become stuck in the water, which reached about six feet. Menne was reported missing about 7 p.m.

The flooding and mudslides heavily damaged the small community where McDonald lived near the base of a bluff along the Mississippi River.

Flash flood watches warnings continued for parts of Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin Friday, after days of heavy left some areas inundated earlier in the week.

Three to five inches of rain fell by mid-morning.

Authorities in several eastern Iowa cities and counties are mobilizing resources to handle flooding from the rain-swollen Cedar River. Authorities say local resident Michael McDonald died Thursday when his house slid onto state Highway 35.

“In my 33 years in Vernon County law enforcement, this is the worst I’ve ever seen”, Sheriff John Spears said at the site of the Victory cleanup.
