Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker bows out of 2016 presidential race

“It’s unfortunate”. “I am surprised he got out, frankly”. But he did promote himself as a Christlike figure, dying so the GOP can win the White House in 2016. “He has set the bar high for successful governors”.

Walker’s fall was dramatic and swift.

He likewise took a couple different shots at Trump amid his comments, including references to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” trademark, his shoot-from-the-hips refuse talk, and his continuous objections about the present condition of the nation.

Once a supporter of the McCain-Kennedy 2006 immigration overhaul bill that would have provided a path to citizenship for some in the country illegally, Walker’s position evolved quite a bit once he became a national candidate. He said it was “legitimate” to discuss building a wall along the U.S.-Canada border. Walker also declared he wasn’t a career politician, despite having held public office for 22 straight years. As political outsiders like Trump, Fiorina, and Dr. Ben Carson made serious inroads with Republican voters, Gov. Walker could not keep up and soon found his expenses vastly outpacing his donations. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) said Walker “has an wonderful story to tell about turning Wisconsin around”.

During the second GOP debate last week, Walker touted improving the educational system as a preferable alternative to increasing the minimum wage.

While only Texas Sen. A Republican with ties to the organization, who was not authorized to speak for Walker and spoke on condition of anonymity, said other 2016 candidates were busy trying to hire his staff.

He has yet to report fundraising totals to federal regulators, but top fundraisers and donors have said his plummeting poll numbers left them struggling to generate cash.

But to do so, Walker will need to rebuild his base of support in Wisconsin – a place where he’s spent little time since kicking off his campaign in July.

“I was just watching with increasing alarm and dismay”, she said.

He encouraged other trailing Republican candidates to follow his path.

A subsequent piece in the Washington Post was among many that listed this episode as further evidence of his unreadiness for prime time: “Walker’s performance as a candidate has contributed to questions about the trajectory of his campaign”.

Walker, one of the most divisive political figures in Wisconsin history, will have some work to do repairing his relationship with voters in his home state.

The good news for Trump and anti-establishment candidates is that Walker had collapsed to zero percent in the latest Republican poll taken by CNN.

Vos said he looks forward to working with Walker on additional reform measures during his second term. The candidate who had once led in polls in Iowa was now well behind within the Hawkeye State and out of doors of the top 10 GOP candidates in some national surveys.
