Wisconsin RB Clement out 4-6 weeks (hernia)

Wisconsin Badgers officials say running back Corey Clement will miss approximately four to six weeks because he’s set to have surgery to fix a sports hernia. “So after consultation with our medical staff, Corey has chose to have surgery for the sports hernia”.

Clement is a junior running back for the Badgers. His nagging groin issues have clearly not healed to the point where rest and rehab would have sufficed.

Wisconsin plays Hawaii this Saturday, which should allow Chryst to further experiment with his backfield to determine whether Deal or Ogunbowale will be the feature back.

Now, it looks like the Badgers will have to wait until the middle or end of the Big Ten season to get their lead runner back. He missed the Badgers’ subsequent games against Miami (Ohio) and Troy completely.

“I feel bad for Corey that this is impacting his season because I know how hard he works and how important this football team is to him. And if something happens and an opportunity comes I won’t have any trouble playing him”.

The pain never got better every morning when he would wake up, Clement said, and he couldn’t kick it into his “fourth gear” and open up his strides.

The most surprising statistic may actually be that Wisconsin has rushed the ball less than any other team in the conference, with only 101 rushing attempts. He has also converted 5 of 6 chances on third-and-short (1 to 3 yards).

Corey Clement had only eight carries for 16 yards through three games.

The 6-foot, 228-pound Orr tallied 14 tackles in his first extended time last Saturday at inside linebacker opposite redshirt freshman T.J.

Clement didn’t shy away from the expectations, and even publicly set a goal of 2,000 rushing yards, which Gordon accomplished easily (2,587) in 2014.
