Hawaii’s Max Wittek (13) throws a pass while being pressured by Wisconsin’s T.J. Edwards (53) during the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Madison, Wis.
It was Wisconsin’s first night game at Camp Randall since 2012 and the Badgers (3-1) won their third straight game. Hawaii won the first match-up in 1986, 20-17 but lost the last 5.
Wisconsin started it right and the team is ready to close it out. A trick play with receiver Makoa Camanse-Stevens throwing a 51-yard pass to wide-open running back Paul Harris got the Rainbow Warriors to the 13. “Like I said, I think our guys did a nice job of – we were not quite sure what we were going to see”. I appreciate Coach Chryst pushing us so hard on those grinder Tuesdays and things like that. 1st-and 10 from Hawaii’s 28th in the fourth quarter on Wisconsin’s last scoring drive. Hawaii played a Big Ten Conference opponent on the road for the second time in three games. Things may be different once conference play begins for the Badgers next week.
With Taiwan Deal looking unstoppable all half, it was Stave who lead the crucial drive in the final minutes of the first half. The Rainbows’ Max Wittek completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes, the second time in the last three weeks the Badgers have been able to do that to a starting quarterback. We just come out and have fun and have a hard practice during the week.
This was another fantastic defensive performance. You get out there and you run. The offense never got anything going and that eventually forced the defense to work some OT. This team must come out running three facets of the game effectively for the whole game.
The Badgers stuck with it against Hawaii, and they’ll likely keep using it as long as it continues to help them gain big chunks of yardage. Clement is sidelined and is expected to undergo sports hernia surgery this week. The Badgers will run base defenses at Hawaii and look to win their individual matchups.
The lights shined brightly above them, but the circumstances for the Wisconsin football defense looked dim. “It was a great way to chew some time off the clock and let them know what’s coming the whole game”. It will be up to Hawaii to win their battles and if they can not the coaching staff needs to make adjustments in their play calling and blocking schemes quickly. I’m not trying to put a damper on that.
However, their offensive line has struggled thus far into the season.
Wisconsin ran for a season-high 326 yards. I just kept running the ball. The Badgers get their last nonconference tuneup before Big Ten play opens next week against Iowa.
Deal follows the hole and picks up nine yards to move the chains. He has earned praise from MELVIN FREAKIN GORDON. Taiwan Deal also figures into the mix. The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder had 16 carries for 102 yards in the first half. Wisconsin has the home field advantage, meaning Hawaii has traveled a significant distance.
Would I trade Hawaii for Wisconsin?

Deal acknowledged after the game as well that it wasn’t really about who starts. And for the most part, they held up. “I think he’s been a patient back, and trusting himself”.
