With Cousins throwing another pick, Redskins fall to 0-2
Afterward, Morris repeated, as he had all week leading up to his return, that he held no grudges against his old team.

His fourth quarter touchdown, however, was very significant. Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins (8) and Redskins head coach (R) walk off the field after their game against the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field. In the a year ago of Morris’ contract, the Redskins shrank his role, gave his carries to then-rookie Matt Jones and made no effort to keep him.
So the Cowboys simply rose and changed their destiny in a 27-23 victory Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Seeing Dallas Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott rally his team to a fourth-quarter comeback win, one can envision the competitive quarterback matchups he will have with fellow rookie Carson Wentz of the Eagles over the next decade or so. The drive was also aided by a roughing-the-passer penalty. He cut in front of a ball intended for Pierre Garcon, knocked it down. “I don’t get it, I really don’t”, Norman said. Dallas might have placed a sketchy defense in a tenuous position thanks to the end result, but it was the kind of play call I like.
Washington got the ball back with 1:30 left and no timeouts.
But five plays later, Church intercepted Cousins in the end zone to kill the drive. What was expected to be a promising season for the Washington Redskins has been anything but in their first two games.
“We’ll work to do whatever we can to fix it”, said Jay Gruden when asked about Cousins’ struggles. “And we weren’t on the right side of it today”.
“You just have to be patient”, Bryant said.
To top it off, both defeats occurred at home; Washington lost only twice at FedEx Field last season.
Washington made a decision to use the franchise tag worth almost $20 million on him this season rather than agreeing to a long-term deal, and as Cousins attempts to prove his worth again, he has one touchdown and three interceptions in a pair of losses. That’s out the window after this week as the star wideout ended the game with 7 catches for 102 yards.
The game was turnover free until Washington’s Josh Norman stripped Elliot and Washington recovered at the Dallas 34 with 1:39 left in the third quarter. What could have been a 31-20 lead was instead just 23-20.
Two incompletions and a 1-yard run by Elliott forced a 22-yard field goal by Dan Bailey for a 3-0 lead. It was a big drive for Washington, as Cousins completed passes to multiple receivers and Jones had a nice burst through traffic.
Dallas quickly regained the lead.
The drawing board doesn’t overthrow a wide receiver who’s open by six yards for an easy touchdown. “Every team that adjusts to us, we don’t adjust to them”, defensive end Ricky Jean Francois said. “We were doing so good offensively”.
The game started out extremely well for the Cowboys. That is until Prescott found Cole Beasley, who got away from Josh Norman in coverage, for a 12-yard gain. Long drives were a trend in the game for Dallas, who had three scoring drives of at least nine plays in the first half.
On third-and-6 from the Dallas 11-yard line, Kirk Cousins, who finished going 28/46 for 364 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, threw the ball out of bounds after enormous pressure from defensive end David Irving.
