With Dinosaurs — Congratulating Star Wars
The new Disney movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has broken box office records after its opening weekend during which it generated $238 million in United States and Canadian ticket sales.

Actor John Boyega, who plays Finn in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, turned up at a screening of the new film at the O2. And The Force Awakens passed the total without any help from China, where the film doesn’t open until 9 January.
So, why does all this matter?
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, previously held both records at US$43.5 million for an opening night and US$91 million for a first day. That makes us all winners.
BB-8, the droid whose exploits in Star Wars: The Force Awakens have won him legions of fans, takes a wander around some Earth-bound locations in this hit promotional video for a museum in Chicago.
Sources tell Variety Harrison Ford came away the big victor earning a paycheck in the eight-figure range ($15 million to $20 million) to reprise his role of Han Solo. Jurassic World’s producer Frank Marshall twittered congratulations to the Show star Wars gang after the short-lived record fell. Probably, there’s a good chance Star Wars could go higher (very good chance).
Considering Jurassic World tapped into nostalgia to break the record in the first place, its only fitting that an even bigger vintage franchise takes the top spot just a few months later. So far the final chapter in the young-adult adaptation has amassed $254.5 million in the US.
Unless you’re living under a rock, you know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed box office records this weekend!
“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” debuted in second place with $14.3 million, while the Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy “Sisters” opened in third place with $14 million.
