The Huskers are California-bound after accepting a bid to the Foster Farms Bowl. Levi’s Stadium, which has hosted the past 2 Pac-12 Championship Games, will host Super Bowl 50 this season and is the home to the San Francisco 49ers.
USC and UCLA learned of their bowl game fates on Sunday. In a normal season, the Cornhuskers, at 5-7, wouldn’t have been bowl eligible. However, this matchup against the UCLA Bruins and freshman stud quarterback Josh Rosen could play against this Husker secondary.
There were a few names for the Foster Farms Bowl before it settled on a new title sponsor in 2014 and a new home where it will be once again in 2015. Most recently, the teams played a home-and-home in 2012 and 2013.
The Foster Farms Bowl wanted a local team if it could get it. UCLA accomplishes that. Sometimes when people are disappointed or disillusioned, it’s harder to get them motivated to travel to a bowl game. The game kicks off at 9:15 PM Pacific, 6:15 PM Eastern.
This season, the Bruins put together 4- and 3-game win streaks en route to an 8-4 overall record, 5-4 in the Pac-12.
Despite finishing the regular season with a 5-7 record – the benchmark for bowl eligibility is often 6-6 – there weren’t enough teams that finished with even or winning records to field each of the 80 spots in this year’s slate of bowl games. The Huskers lost on the final play of the game to the Cougars 33-28 to open the season.
