With new monument, Obama and Dems seize on Equal Pay Day

Women starting their careers today will make about $430,000 less than a man in the same job.

Women in tech roles are getting paid less than men and asking for lower salaries – but that trend might be changing.

Several other celebrities also voiced their support for pay equality on social media, including singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, actress Connie Britton, soccer star Hope Solo, and actor Mark Ruffalo. Carli Lloyd, along with four teammates from the U.S. women’s soccer team, filed a complaint in March with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging that U.S. Soccer unfairly pays them far less than it pays members of the men’s team.

“One of the contributing factors is that men tend to negotiate when say they are given a salary package and women don’t”, Buchan said.

The US based Facebook and Microsoft have become the latest tech giants to come out claiming that they have effectively implemented equal pay for both male and female. “You’re going to make the same if you do as good a job”, he said.
