With no Luck, Colts fail to cover yet again

An Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis Colts defeating the NFL’s most luckless team of recent years 16-13 does not exactly scream “news”.

Three female journalists were stopped by an usher as they tried to enter the Jaguars locker room after the Jaguars-Colts game.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Rookie Josh Lambo got his first game-winning kick in the NFL. The Colts had to play with backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, and as a result, the offense struggled to reach the end zone.

And, Watson added, members of both teams’ PR staffs apologized for something that never should have happened in 2015.

An injured right shoulder kept Colts quarterback Andrew Luck out of his first National Football League game Sunday. “Coby was a little offended and I was like, ‘Alright, I will throw you a couple extra passes late in the fourth quarter.’ We said it jokingly”.

So Hasselbeck had a job to do, one he hadn’t done since his Tennessee days in 2012. “We were going to evaluate him, see how he felt”. In a league in which there has been a kicking epidemic this season, the Colts won the game today due to their kicker.

The Colts will also likely rely on another veteran, running back Frank Gore.

“If necessary, I will be ready to go”, Hasselbeck said Thursday. But he got a reprieve because Cleveland was offside on the play. It was really special.

Jacksonville kicker Jason Myers stood quietly at his locker Sunday, pondering what could have been.

He missed a 53-yarder wide right with 6 seconds left, then got a do-over because the Colts called timeout.

The Jaguars entered the game without tight end Julius Thomas (hand), defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks, safety Sergio Brown (calf), wide receiver Marqise Lee, running back Denard Robinson (knee) and right guard Brandon Linder (shoulder).

Myers’ next chance came with 8:13 left in overtime – pushing that one wide left.

Hasselback threw for 282 and one touchdown with no interceptions and led the 53-yard march to step up the winning points as the Colts moved to 2-2 for the season.

“It’s hard because if we make one of the field goals [Jason Myers missed], we’re talking about the tremendous effort, the competitiveness, getting turnovers, scoring off a sudden change – the things that led us to a win”, coach Gus Bradley said. While there was a few hope that Luck would play through the injury, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the pain was too much for Luck to go out and risk further injury.

That was all he could do. Outside linebacker Robert Mathis finished with three sacks and Indy’s defense held Maurice Jones-Drew, an old nemesis, to 23 yards on 13 carries.

Gore fumbled near the goal line. That was enough to get Adam Vinatieri into field goal range.

The Colts’ 12 first half rushing attempts produced eight yards.

And the old guys delivered the win.
