With nuclear deal done, Iran sets out to reassure wary Gulf Arabs

Zarif further said that his current three-nation tour of the Middle East is his first trip after the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers and is aimed at discussing the ways of improving mutual relations to serve regional interests and promote global peace.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif received a red-carpet airport greeting from his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah.

Before his Gulf visit, Zarif said in a statement posted on his ministry’s website late on Friday that Tehran would continue supporting its allies in Syria and Iraq to fight against militant group Islamic State.

Zarif also highlighted the significance of a recent breakthrough in talks between Iran and global powers on Tehran’s nuclear program, saying it has “resolved common problems with regional countries“. The curbs are aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining an atomic bomb.

Also at the press conference the Iraqi minister lauded the close ties and cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.

Zarif decried precisely what he popularly known as “uselessness of vacant dangers from the every country of Iran plus the intolerance along the every country of Iran”, and said this type of comment ought to be consigned “to one last century”.

Despite his efforts, growing discord with the Gulf island nation of Bahrain threatens to overshadow Zarif’s outreach.

Bahrain on Saturday announced it was recalling its ambassador to Iran for consultations following what it called “continued hostile statements made by Iranian officials towards Bahrain”, according to the official Bahrain News Agency.

The deal could also make the battle against Islamic State more powerful, with more support on the ground rather than just US-led airstrikes.

In May, authorities arrested several suspects involved in a plot to smuggle high-grade explosives into Saudi Arabia from Bahrain.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Ghashghavi downplayed the ambassador’s recall. “Iran has always advocated cooperation between everyone”.
