Harper went 1-for-5 and didn’t haunt them almost as much as the pitching of Scherzer (8-4), who allowed seven runs – including four home runs – in five innings in a May 6 loss at Wrigley Field.

Scherzer also earned a measure of revenge against the Cubs after yielding seven runs in five innings at Wrigley Field on May 6 in the midst of Chicago’s four-game sweep. “This hitting team, you can’t give them any kind of edge and no outs man on first, it hurts”. And on Tuesday he was once again tough, only allowing two runs against the Nationals on four hits and two walks in six innings of work. With the infield playing in, Eaton bounced a grounder up the middle against Anibal Sanchez (3-7).

Adam Duvall hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs for the Reds.

Whit Merrifield hit his first career homer, and Edinson Volquez tossed seven innings of two-hit ball to lead Kansas City over Cleveland.

The White Sox trailed 7-0 in the third, hurt by another shaky start from James Shields.

Brett Lawrie and Avisail Garcia delivered consecutive RBI singles to tie it. J.D. Martinez had three hits while subbing for designated hitter Victor Martinez, sidelined by right knee irritation.

Manny Machado hit a two-run home run, Chris Tillman struck out seven and the Baltimore Orioles snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox. Greinke is 9-3. He has won his last six starts.

Goldschmidt and Lamb homered off Mike Bolsinger (1-4). Peter Bourjos had two hits and two RBIs for Philadelphia, which had lost 17 of 22 overall.

Eickhoff (4-8) allowed three hits. David Hernandez, Hector Neris and Andrew Bailey finished the six-hitter. Travis Wood walked Bryce Harper and then after he got Daniel Murphy to fly to center, Joe Maddon made a flurry of switches, including moving Javier Baez to second base. Altogether, that’s 37 home runs in his last 31 starts.

Tyler Holt’s bases-loaded walk off closer Arodys Vizcaino forced in the tie-breaking run in the ninth inning for Cincinnati. In the sixth inning, Addison Russell came through for Chicago, blasting a one-out solo home run to ruin the ideal game, no-hitter and shutout in one swing.

Freddie Freeman drove in three runs with three hits for the Braves, including a homer. The Cubs have a 35-4 record when outhitting opponents.

Martin Prado homered for the Marlins, who rested sore slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Chicago took the lead in the top of the third inning. It was the first time in six starts he allowed more than five hits.

Washington has placed closer Jonathan Papelbon on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain.

That was enough to help end the Dodgers’ three-game losing streak, but their bigger concern was Maeda’s painful injury.

Davis hit his 15th homer off Cesar Ramos (1-3) in the fifth. On Thursday, the Nats begin a 10-game trip that starts in San Diego.

Daniel Coulombe (1-0) won in relief of starter Sean Manaea, who exited after 4 1/3 innings with a strained left forearm. Zach Neal went three innings for his first save.

The hit gave Fister four career RBIs, and the first since he had one in 2013 for Detroit.

Almora entered the game to play left field in the eighth. It also served as confirmation that, longballs or no longballs – he gave up another one to Addison Russell that accounted for the Cubs’ lone run – Scherzer is still the alpha dog in the District.
