Foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup earlier tweeted that during his intervention, President Obama lauded Mr. Modi for successfully marshalling the legislation for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), by pointing out that India’s tax reforms were an “example of bold policy in an otherwise hard global economic scenario”.

Modi, who arrived in Hangzhou on Saturday from Vietnam for the summit, also met Deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman and discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties.

This is also May’s first global summit as the Prime Minister.

“We expect the global community to speak and act in unity, and to respond with urgency to fight this menace”.

He insisted that domestic policy and action of every country must get support from global regimes and frameworks to put everyone on the path of development.

He also met French President Francois Hollande and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Without directly naming Pakistan, Modi told Turnbull, “Our (India’s) neighbourhood, in particular, was suffering from destabilisation effects of terrorism”.

He told Jinping that the partnership between both nations is important for the region and also for the whole world.

The violence has been described by Pakistan as a “freedom movement in Kashmir” and India has accused Islamabad of funding the clashes as well as inciting them through the use of terrorists like Hafiz Saeed who move freely in Pakistan.

He also condemned the terrorist bomb attack at China’s embassy in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek. India’s Larsen and Toubro (L&T) will build offshore high speed patrol boats for Vietnamese Coast Guards, while an agreement was signed on programme of cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping matters.
