Wizard’s spin-off film gets sequel

The Fantastic Beasts trilogy focuses on Newt Scamander, a character that was mentioned only in passing within the Harry Potter books with the story set decades before that series.

Well, at least Warner are releasing the spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in November, and that should also do gangbusters.

“The Cursed Child” was written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, in collaboration with Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling.

It’s the eighth story in the famous boy wizard series, but instead of a narrative novel like J.K. Rowling’s previous Potter books, it’s the script for the play that opened in London on Saturday.

United Kingdom publisher Little, Brown Book Group said “Cursed Child” sold 680,000 print copies in the U.K.in three days.

A “darker” sequel to the new Harry Potter spin-off film has already been announced, before the first has even hit screens.

So a release date for the sequel also makes a lot of sense, and a two year gap is pretty standard for major franchises.

At 12:01 a.m. ET on July 31, Scholastic released the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two script book (ISBN 978-1-338-09913-3; All Ages), in print in the USA and Canada.

The drama takes place almost 20 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The 34 year old English actor, Eddie Redmayne, plays the role of Newt Scamander in “Fantastic Beasts”. Some fans are upset that the book isn’t so much a book as it is a script based on the play now in production in London. These books raised about £17 million, and include some handwritten notes from popular side character and friend of Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley. At the same time we could take this as a sign of faith from Warner, that they maybe like what they’ve seen so far from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
