Great Britain’s Sophie Hitchon claimed bronze at 74.54 meters.

Wlodarczyk threw an Olympic-record 80.40 meters on her second attempt and 82.29 meters on her third to win her first gold medal.
Sophie slipped to fourth in the fourth round after an effort of 72.28m, and dropped another place to fifth after her next throw of 72.89m.
Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk smashed her own world record on her way to victory in the women’s hammer throw on Monday (Aug 15) – four years after being denied gold by Russian dope cheat Tatyana Lysenko.
It was some effort from the Burnley-born thrower whose previous best achievement was the bronze medal she picked up at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Hitchon’s face was a picture when she saw her distance pop up……
Hitchon’s bronze nearly appeared to be as much of a surprise to herself as anyone else, considering it was Germany’s Betty Heidler who sat in the third-place bubble heading into the final few throws. “To get a bronze medal, I am over the moon”, Hitchon told BBC Sport. They can always produce their best in the last round.
