WNC Delegate to the RNC Ready for Cleveland

Late Thursday, Trump allied with party leaders to head off an attempt to let delegates vote for the candidate of their choice, rather than the candidate who won them.

The deal was not connected with efforts to unbind delegates to allow them to vote against Trump or specifically to help Cruz, even though some of the interests overlapped, Cuccinelli said.

Some anti-Trump delegates still insist that they are free to vote how they choose under the current rules.

Martinez offered praise Friday for Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as Trump’s vice presidential running mate, describing his commitment to “pro-growth policies and successful governance”.

First, because they’re perks awarded to people who worked hard for candidates during the primaries – just as top sales reps in companies are awarded trips to national sales conventions.

Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort, a procedural expert who Trump first hired to manage the delegate process, crowed about the victory on CNN.

He turned to Twitter to get his message across to his 9.72 million followers.

There were objections, of course, but the gavel cut them short.

As for what would happen if a delegate declares a vote that conflicts with a state’s binding election result? While “Never Trump” activists have long faced seemingly insurmountable hurdles, the Republican National Committee was anxious enough about these efforts to launch a whip team to lobby members of the Rules Committee, helping ensure this outcome.

In an interview last week, Unruh called the effort “one last-ditch fight to defend the republic”.

The rules will also need to be formally adopted when the committee reconvenes at the start of the convention on Monday, and then pass by a majority vote of all the delegates on the floor.

“I am concerned about the prospect of demonstrations getting out of hand”.

The failed talks focused on conservative proposals aimed at appealing to grassroots conservatives that would take power away from Priebus and the Republican National Committee.

Unless the full convention accepted the minority report, however, the delegates would remain bound.

Second, the conventions generate prime-time TV infomercials featuring celebrities, heroes and former presidents (Bush 1 and 2 say they won’t appear at the Republican one) and, most importantly, the nominee on the last night.
