WNY’s Suhr gives it her all, but fails to medal in Rio
Greece took the gold, clearing 4.85 meters, or nearly 16 feet. Her coach/husband Rick Suhr said Jenn had been sick eight of the last 11 days. “Obvious respiratory infection etc”.

In his Facebook post, posted Friday afternoon, Rick Suhr stated, “I ask all her supporters to not expect anything today”.
Suhr, the 2012 Olympic champion, failed to clear 4.7 meters on her three attempts. “If this was any other meet, any other place or time we get treatment and cancel out”. She has been ill all week, including on Tuesday when she qualified for the medal round. “I know that Jenny, if it’s her goal to continue on, she’ll come back, she’ll come back stronger than ever because she’s proven herself over and over again”. But I don’t have to like it. Let’s all watch and appreciate what Jenn is willing to go thru to represent America.
He added: “I can only hope the next Olympic Champ can honor the title with the integrity and respect and humbleness that Jenn has”. Geduev, a three-time European champion, upended Burroughs 3-2 to hand the American just his third global loss and knock him out of gold medal contention. Jenn also holds the US indoor (4.90) and outdoor records (4.90).
Suhr placed equal-seventh with a mark of 4.60.
Ekaterini Stefanidi of Greece won the gold medal with a mark of 4.85 meters.
