Wolff delighted by Rosberg

“I have known Nico since 2013 and that is the best Nico Rosberg I have ever seen throughout the weekend since then”, said Wolff. “He drove the race in the same way, he had a great start, controlled the pace and on the contrary Lewis didn’t have a good weekend – he was lacking laps to find out about the right set-up [in practice], so he couldn’t really choose the direction and that caused him to go backwards from then on”. “Of course Daniel tried to pull one up on me with the pit stop”.

“Well, it’s a lot different to when I was here last year, but in all in all, with everything that’s gone on this year, I’m still in the fight, there’s still a long way to go and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got”, he said.

“I’m not going to stand here disappointed”.

“This weekend has just been a bit of a tricky one for me, but I’m still glad I could get back up on the podium and get some points for the team”, said Hamilton, who finished third. “His win was fully deserving”.

In the wake of Nico Hulkenberg’s startline accident which eliminated the German on the spot but also saw a number of other drivers incur damage to their cars, officials deployed the safety vehicle.

“I’m just happy to win the race because that is what I came here to do”.

As for the constructor standings, Mercedes has anchored the first place with 538 points, followed by Red Bull and Ferrari, gaining 316 and 301 points respectively.

Hamilton had endured a frustrating weekend in practice and qualifying and was becoming increasingly irate at not being able to get past Ricciardo. Although things once had looked promising for him, Rosberg was quicker than him during the 58th lap as he got stuck in traffic.

Singapore, Sep 19: Nico Rosberg led from beginning to end to win the 2016 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday (Sep 18) and re-take the lead of the Formula One Drivers’ World Championship from his teammate Lewis Hamilton. “We have the tendency of saying Lewis has awesome pace”.

But there was nothing he could do as Raikkonen took advantage when Hamilton locked up under braking on lap 33.

Hamilton dismissed the notion that he would have done anything differently over the summer, instead paying tribute to his championship rival.

This left the German, on older tyres, vulnerable to attack from Ricciardo on fresher rubber as the Red Bull driver gained more than a second per lap. This news story is related to Print/150893-Rosberg-holds-off-Ricciardo-to-seize-championship-lead/ – breaking news, latest news, pakistan ne.
