Wolverines embarrass Gators in Citrus Bowl
“A lot of people don’t expect us to win this game, which is unfortunate because we’re SEC East champs and we play in the best conference in the nation”, Florida offensive lineman Trip Thurman said this week.

You look at Michigan’s strong defense, you look at Florida’s inept offense – and it appears to add up to the same losing matchup the Gators found themselves in against Florida State and Alabama.
Leading by 10 at the half, MI scored on each of its first two possessions in the third quarter to take a 31-7 lead.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Someone forgot to tell MI that this was supposed to be a struggle between defenses.
Coach Jim Harbaugh’s boot camp bowl prep for the Citrus Bowl paid dividends over Florida today, as his No. 17 Wolverines buried the No. 19 Gators, 41-7, in front of 63,113 at the Citrus Bowl Stadium, sealing an impressive first season and boosting expectations for 2016. The game moved to New Year’s Day in 1987 and has remained a tradition on that date.
Friday’s victory over No. 12 Northwestern in the Outback Bowl not only capped Tennessee’s best season in eight years, but showcased some of the young talent that gives the Vols a chance to keep climbing. Our defense was magnificent….
“When I look back over this year it’s been a joy to coach this team, love the players, great bunch of guys”.
There were some questions surrounding how effective Rudock would be after being knocked out of Michigan’s regular-season finale against Ohio State with a left shoulder injury.
“It was just the right decision”, Taylor said. And I’m just so thankful that we were able to do that as a team. But the Wolverines didn’t miss him, holding the Gators (10-4) to 28 total yards in the second half.
“It was a case of getting your rump kicked in”. In the end, if Florida can muster up three touchdowns, Jim McElwain should notch his first bowl victory with the team.
Florida, which stumbled into the postseason an absolute mess offensively following the suspension (and now transfer) of eye-opening quarterback Will Grier, mustered only a single touchdown offensively as UF was held scoreless over the final three quarters. The Tide rolled to a 29-15 win with the Gators finally finding the end zone for a second time in garbage time. The Wolverines then tacked on a field goal to take a 17-7 half time lead.
Michigan’s receivers did a great job creating lanes for Rudock to throw to, and ran crisp routes to open up deep-play opportunities.
Throwing for a fifth straight game over 250 yards with 278 with his three touchdowns, Rudock finished the season with the 3,017 passing yards, the second-best season in MI history. This season Peppers has been an impact player for the Wolverines on defense, offense, and in the return game. Antonio Callaway has 603 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns, while Demarcus Robinson has 505 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns for Florida. The pass was intercepted by Jarrod Wilson. “Ten wins is no small feat in college football”. It’s very hard to get there. Of course, Harbaugh needs time to get “his guy” on board at various positions, highlighted by running back and linebacker, but with an incoming recruiting class that ranks, at least by some, as the best in the country, the stars are aligned for him to do just that.
