Woman accused of trying to remove body at funeral

Cynthia Frierson was arrested at the Roundtree Napier Funeral Home where witnesses told police that she showed up during a service and started grabbing the body inside the casket, WTVF reported. Police said they originally responded to a report that Frierson had sideswiped several cars.

“It really wasn’t shocking because I knew her capability, what she might do”, Gary Stovall, who lives across the street from where he said Frierson often stays, told CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF-TV.

Stovall has known Frierson since her childhood and said she needs heavy rehabilitation.

A number of people removed her from the building.

“It was because I told them that he was asleep and they was like, ‘Come on, come on out of here.’ I said, ‘He is not dead”.

Officers said people attending the service became very angry and told Frierson to leave.

Frierson is also being charged with public intoxication, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and driving on a revoked and suspended license. “He is asleep, ‘ and that is it”, she recalled.

While being booked into jail, the report says a glass pipe with black residue was found in Frierson’s possession.

Within minutes, officers knew where their suspect was because, yet another call came in to police. She then went into an active funeral and began grabbing a body in an open casket, police said.
