Woman apprehended after threat she brought a bomb to Joint Base Andrews

Joint Base Andrews, the military air base that is home to the United States president’s plane Air Force One, was briefly placed on lockdown on Thursday (May 12) after a woman claimed to be wearing a bomb.

The woman was taken into custody shortly after the incident began around 5:15 p.m. ET, the base said. It warned base residents and personnel to avoid the area, which still had a presence of emergency responders. According to WUSA9, the incident didn’t impact flights or missions at the base. “Although the situation has been diffused, emergency personnel continue to secure the area and all base residents/personnel should avoid the area”.

Joint Base Andrews’ main gate is on lockdown Thursday evening after a “security incident”.

According to a senior government official, a woman walked into visitor center claiming to have an explosive device strapped to her chest. “More information will be released as it becomes available”.
