Four others-all men-have successfully completed the swim between the Farallon Islands and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. “I definitely had to dig really, really deep”.

“I think this is the toughest swim, bar none”, Ms Chambers told the San Francisco Chronicle ahead of the swim. “I can see the bridge and when you can see that you know have to get there”, Chambers told KGO-TV.

Chamber’s training partner Simon Dominguez who followed the swimmer in a boat attempted to swim the route last week to become the first person to navigate the stretch in the opposite direction.

It’s not Chambers’ first big ocean swim – she has previously swum the Cook Strait and the English Channel, as well as the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland.

“That’s their habitat and they should be there”. The islands off are notorious for their great white shark population.

It was in 2007 when after an accident, Chambers almost suffered an amputated leg and had to spend the next two years in recovery with a one per cent chance of walking again, reported Hello Giggles.
