Falls used to live in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, where police are investigating the murder and dismemberment of several women.

Cooper said Friday that Falls likely attacked others before he beat and choked a woman he had met online.

“I knew he was there to kill me”, the woman told KPTV.

Inside his auto police found a machete, a shovel, axes, knives, a bulletproof vest, numerous sets of handcuffs, a large bottle of bleach and a list of escorts’ names.

“She had to defend herself and she shot him and he’s in the kitchen”, the neighbor said, “he pulled a gun on her. She’s got cuts and stuff all over her”.

“When he strangled me, I grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands, I shot him”, Heather told CBS News.

Falls became a prime suspect after the police found a “kill kit” in the trunk of his auto after he was killed by his victim.

About 100 miles west of Charleston, in the town of Chillicothe, Ohio, at least six woman have vanished in recent months. Some of the Ohio victims were linked to prostitution and drug addiction.

“Based again on the nature of the attack and based on the items that this man had on his possession, it’s hard to imagine this was only going to be a one time event for him”, Cooper said.

May 2005, Misty Marie Saens, 25, disappeared from Las Vegas and part of her remains were found in the desert on a road leading to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas.

When authorities later inspected his vehicle, they found an arsenal of items that aroused suspicions he could be responsible for the killings of sex workers in Nevada, Illinois and Ohio. She is still missing.

A serial killer may have been killed by a potential victim, with police saying a courageous sex worker in West Virginia just put an end to a predator who they believe murdered scores of women across three states. Her body was found in a river on 2 January.

The man said just three words – “Live or die”- then held a gun to her stomach. The mother-of-two’s body was found wrapped in a sheet in a drainage pipe on 20 June.

The slain attacker, Neal Falls, appeared at first sight to be unexceptional – a 45-year-old former security guard from Springfield, Oregon who had no serious criminal record and only a few minor traffic infractions to his name.

Meanwhile police departments across America investigating cases which have gone cold are looking at Falls as a possible culprit.

Police have not yet established any direct link between Falls and the series of crimes, but they are working with the FBI to check Falls’ DNA against a national database, the Charleston Gazette Mail reported.
