“To date there is no indication this was a terrorist or politically-motivated act”.

Police say both the woman and her attacker died on Sunday, the day after the attack in the far east of the country, near the border with Liechtenstein.

Details surrounding the incident took place are now unclear, but it comes after Europe has been rocked by a series of terrorist attacks over the past 12 months.

In May at a train station in the German state of Bavaria, a 27-year-old German man who had been in psychiatric care stabbed commuters, killing one and wounding three others before being apprehended by police.

Since the attack, the assailant and one victim – the 34-year-old woman – has died.

St. Gallen police said the motive was not clear.

Doctors reported that two of the remaining five victims, a woman of 17 and a girl of 6, are suffering from serious knife and burn injuries.

“According to the information we have for the time being, the 27-year-old Swiss man poured out a flammable liquid”.

One woman and the attacker were “very seriously injured”, Kruesi told AFP, adding that both their lives were in danger.

The train stands near the station after a man attacked other passengers aboard the train at Salez, Switzerland, on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016.

He said it was unclear if the attacker, who did not have a criminal record, knew any of the victims. Forensic scientists are analysing the liquid he used.

Local officials have searched the Lichtenstein home of a man who started a fire on a Swiss train and stabbed passengers this weekend, police said on Monday (Aug 15).

Some 90 rescue workers had taken part in Saturday’s operation, including police, firefighters, ambulances and three rescue helicopters, police said.
