An Ohio grandmother has died six weeks after being stabbed while protecting her grandchildren from a sex offender.

Her daughter witnessed the attack. Arthurs “pushed the children to safety”, police told the newspaper, and the three ran back to the house. Gibson said her mother collapsed on the floor and was able to identify her attacker as the man in the alley.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that Amos was convicted of child enticement with a sexual motivation in 2010 and 2011.

Arthurs lived with her daughter, Amanda Gibson, age 27, and Gibson’s children, Jeremy Mullins, 7, and Kourtnee Mullins, 8.

Police say that Arthurs suffered a stab wound to the chest, and the 45-year-old fought for her life in late June and July before succumbing to her injury.

Grandmother Candy Arthurs passed away after sacrificing herself to save her grandchildren from being lured into an alley by a convicted child predator, according to multiple reports. The reason why neighbors were not alerted to Amos’ status is due to the fact Tier 1 offenders are not subject to community notification.

Gibson told WBNS she had a message for Amos.

“I hope he rots in jail and that he never sees the light of day again and that he knows how it feels to lose his life”, she said.

When she confronted him, he pulled out a large knife and stabbed her in the heart, authorities said.

Arthurs’ 7-year-old grandson Jeremy was also stabbed in the incident, but has recovered.

Amos, who lives in North Wayne Avenue, a short distance from Gibson’s home, had an additional charge of murder added to two other counts of felonious assault. “If I come walking through the house at night he’ll come and grab and be right on my side”. On Thursday, a judge set his bond at $2.5 million.
