Woman drowns trying to save nine-year-old boy

A woman who drowned after saving the life of a nine-year-old boy is being remembered as a hero.

A 26-year-old woman entered the water to help him but, after assisting the boy for several minutes, she also got into difficulty.

A woman has died in hospital after going into the water to try to help a young boy who was swept off rocks on the north coast of New South Wales in Australia.

Police said two men swam out to the pair, who were about 100m offshore, and were soon joined by a police officer, who helped the boy back to the beach.

A WOMAN is in a critical condition after she tried to save a boy swept into the ocean near Tweed Heads.

Tributes began on social media as the news of her death spread.

The young boy, who was not injured, was conveyed to the hospital for examination. There were pretty somber moods last night, ‘ said one witness to 9News.

A lifeguard commented to 9News that: ‘The circumstances at the time were very treacherous around the rocks’.
