TMZ Sports reported on Monday that a 24-year-old woman, a family friend who met Encarncion in 2013, is seeking more than $11.5 million in damages from him.
The woman, who says in the lawsuit she also was sexually involved with one of Encarnacion’s Jays teammates previous year, said she contacted Encarnacion after experiencing pain following intercourse.
The woman then said that she had unprotected sex with Encarnacion at least twice after connecting with him on a trip to Punta Cana in his native Dominican Republic in February 2016.
She says the ballplayer “has already been sexually active with several partners”, and that she contracted herpes and Chlamydia from Encarnacion “as a result of their physical encounter of unprotected sex”. She started to feel burning while at the airport, and concerned that she had the mosquito-borne virus Zika, she went to the Long Island Jewish Hospital, the complaint states.
The woman claims she contacted Edwin – but he insisted he was clean and “suggested she may have picked up [the STDs] when they went 4-wheeling and she swam in the river”. He then began to ignore her altogether after changing his stance as being STD-free, the woman alleges. The woman claims she now believes he knew he was carrying STDs all along.
We reached out to Edwin’s agent – who told us “no comment”.
In a statement released to Sportsnet, Paul Kinzer described the action served against his client as “completely inappropriate and meritless”.
“Mr. Encarnacion will not be commenting on this matter”, Kinzer said.

The woman is suing for battery and misrepresentation of facts. With his homer hitting ways (he’s smashed 35 in 2015 and 232 since he was traded to the Blue Jays in 2009) he’ll most likely be one of the top free agents on the market this offseason. “He will not allow this to distract from his continued focus of contributing to his team’s success”, Kinzer continued.
