Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say multiple bodies have been found inside a home in an unincorporated area of Gilbert, east of Phoenix.
An Arizona mom shot her teenage son and 12-year-old daughter dead in a shocking murder-suicide.
Deputies found a handgun near the woman’s body, according to Arpaio.
“We’re pretty sure that the mother killed her kids and then herself, at this point”, Arpaio said in a brief telephone interview.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Tuesday his deputies believe the deaths were a murder-suicide but are awaiting autopsy results. Sheriff’s officials say multiple dead bodies have been found inside a home in an unincorporated area of Gilbert, east of Phoenix. “We’re leaving that little part open just in case someone else could have caused these three deaths”.
Homes in the unincorporated area near Gilbert are surrounded by agricultural land.
Gerhart and the victims’ father were separated and they are not believed to have any other children together, Arpaio said. But we have a job to do; I don’t know if you ever get used to it, but here we’re talking about a 12-year-old and a 17-year-old.
Deputies discovered the bodies at 9 p.m. Monday, having been called there by a neighbor who noticed a vehicle backed up to the house with a hose running from a tailpipe into a window of the home, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Police have contacted Gerhart’s husband, who neighbors said had recently moved out of the family’s home.
Phone messages left for some of Gerhart’s relatives and friends weren’t immediately returned Tuesday evening.
