The freak accident happened earlier this week claiming the life of 24-year-old Hawaiian native Chelsea Ake.
Shae-Lynn, who traveled from Hawaii to retrieve her friend’s body, is devastated by the loss.
Patients stay in the freezing chamber for just two to four minutes, but police say Ms Ake, 24, spent 10 hours trapped in the capsule after it failed to turn off.
Cause of death has been determined as ‘operator error, implying that it was not the machine that malfunctioned. By that time, Ake had long since either frozen to death or suffocated within the chamber, which can reach temperatures as low as minus 240 degrees Celsius.
“We like to do the cryofacial afterward because it helps seal everything in”, Ms Ake-Salvacion had recently told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Friend Shae-Lynn Bee travelled from Hawaii to recover the body of Chelsea Ake, pictured above.
“It’s very frustrating to know because there are no cameras in there so basically the only person that does know what happened is Chelsea”, Bee added.
Whole-body cryotherapy is used to cool the body and is an alternative to ice packs and cold water immersion.
Friends have been expressing condolences and prayers on Ake’s Facebook page since her death.
According to experts, no one should spend more than three minutes in one. ‘She was my best friend, and I’m going to miss her dearly’.
The treatment uses extreme cold to stimulate skin sensors which activates the Central Nervous System.
