Woman Has Body Photoshopped in 18 Countries to Examine Beauty Standards

The company is not the first group to use Honig’s idea.

A handful of images were altered so much they were unrecognisable from the original photo as the designers changed the woman’s waist, thighs, shoulders, ankles, shoes, bra, underwear and hair. The results were pretty interesting, but they were nowhere near as drastic as what this study produced. The thinnest portrayals belonged to China at 101 pounds (45.8 kg) followed by Italy at 107 pounds (48.5 kg).

The experiment also shows that some beauty standards – like the obsession with thigh gaps and unrealistically tiny waists – can potentially pose health risks, which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. “And the range of depictions found in our study appears to confirm this notion”.
