Woman kidnapped, fatally shot by husband’s mistress

The suspect then shot herself, police said.

Sandra Barnett, 49, was taken from her home in Ellenwood, Ga., by the mistress wielding a gun on Wednesday.

Clayton County police said they were alerted by authorities in Carroll County and Alabama that police were chasing a black Dodge Darango, which matched the description of the vehicle in Barnett’s missing persons case.

The teacher had also recently changed the locks of her backgate after becoming concerned someone had tampered with it, 11 Alive reported.

The alleged kidnapper killed herself during a police chase on I-20 near the Alabama-Georgia state line in Heflin, Ala., said police.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted the Durango around noon on Thursday at a truck stop on I-20 near the Waco exit, and a chase ensued.

Jarrett says the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is working with authorities in Georgia to investigate the reported abduction and shooting.

‘They went through Haralson County, on into Alabama, where other agencies and officers assisted in the pursuit.’. The driver of the Dodge stopped in the interstate, pulled a gun and shot Barnett, said police.
