Woman left with severe burns after acid attack in Southampton

A woman has been treated for horrific burn injuries after she was attacked with acid during in Southampton on Friday night.

She was walking past the Turtle Bay restaurant at the time but had not visited the establishment that evening.

An eyewitness said the male attacker, who fled towards Above Bar Street after the attack, appeared to know the woman.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Hampshire Police on 101.

‘Neither her nor her attacker were actually guests here, we were just helping out and providing first aid treatment. It happened just outside next to our outdoor tables and smoking area.

Police said it was an isolated incident and are appealing for anyone to come forward with information about the attack. She said it was two men.

The 37-year-old was taken to hospital after being attacked outside a restaurant in Southampton.

Another worker from the bar said: “Our doorman was splashed with the acid, it landed on his leather jacket and burnt a hole in it, reaching the skin”.

“Her face was blistering badly”.

No arrests have been made and police have not released any descriptions.

Ed Hooley tweeted: “A woman has been attacked with acid outside Turtle Bay; her face took serious burns”. When the paramedics turned up they said we had done the right things and within 30 seconds they had rushed her off to hospital. A fire crew from Hampshire Fire and rescue were called in to wash away the scene. However, the manager on duty provided immediate assistance and emergency first aid while the emergency services were called.
